GAYS MARK HISTORY WITH PARADES.(CAPITAL REGION)

NEW YORK -- Some marched in evening gowns, some in leather thongs, some danced to disco music and some had political messages.

On the 30th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, when patrons of a gay bar in Greenwich Village fought back against a police raid, members of the gay community turned out Sunday to celebrate their pride with parades in Manhattan, San Francisco, and elsewhere.

Floats rolling down Fifth Avenue carried gay gospel singers, AIDS activists, and a disc jockey named Billy deMace who told spectators: ``We're going to play a song in memory of our friends who died of AIDS and hate crimes.'' …
